Pushups

Pushups

Pushups are a great exercise. If you haven’t done a push up in a long time, doing one will feel hard. If you do a push up every day for a week, doing one will still feel annoying. If you do a push up every day for a year, when you don’t do one you’ll feel strange.

When you do push ups, other things become easier - like dealing with your luggage at the airport or loading groceries into your car. At work, we can do push ups too.

Pushups at work are tasks that are probably hard if we only do them once in a while. But the more we do them the easier they get. And the more we do them, the better positioned we are for the once in a while events - like handling luggage.

I’ve been committing code every work day. Sometimes this is feature code. But sometimes these are push ups such as changing packaging, updating logs, removing flags, renaming things. Doing these types of push ups regularly make us better able to ship wins because we have fewer interruptions and our code is easier to change.

I want to encourage everyone to take on a push up routine that is right for them.
